This is a safety feature designed to protect you. When your Miele washing machine is operating, the drum spins at high speeds and temperatures inside can get very hot. You can cancel a programme and, once the appliance has cooled down, the machine should allow you to open the door.
There is water inside of the washing machine
If there is water left inside of the machine after it has finished it’s programme, this could indicate an issue with the drainage system. Whilst there could be various reasons, common ones include a faulty drain pump and a blockage in the drain hose.

How to unlock the washing machine door
Here are some safe steps you can use to try and open the door to your Miele washing machine, whilst you wait for a specialist engineer (please note; this may not work in all cases):
- make sure the appliance is powered off by pressing the power button
- Access the port to the bottom-left of the appliance
- Use the specialist tool (found int he soap dispenser drawer) to open this port by inserting the flat end of the tool at 12 0’clock and press in about an inch deep at a 45 degree angle
- The port door should open and you should see an orange pull string. Pull this string to release the door mechanism
- Close the port and return the specialist tool to the soap dispenser drawer
- Your Miele washing machine door should now be open!
